BBL Trophy Final

Click for the full image galleryNewcastle Eagles flew through the BBL Trophy Final to win 111-95 against a Cheshire Jets team who started on afterburners but ran out of gas as the game went on. Newcastle were more accurate and consistent, whilst the Jets had too many turnovers and failed to deliver points when it mattered. Not an overly surprising result considering Newcastle are at the top of the table at the moment. The highlight of the afternoon photographically, was literally a highlight. The blinds covering the large windows at the Spectrum let in a shaft of sunlight about 6 inches wide. As the afternoon moved on, this little sunbeam moved nicely onto the free-throw line. It reminded me (vary vaguely!) about Stonehenge, as we were just one day past the March equinox.Anyway, up stepped Andrew Sullivan at the appointed hour to take a free throw, and placed himself with supreme accuracy right on the correct spot to be lit by the thin shaft of light. I'd prepared for this and quickly dialled in 1/2000th shutter speed (no time to mess with the ISO) and zapped off three frames. Lovely stuff - a nice striking image making the most of the conditions and with just enough planning to give the ego a nice boost.Lee was shooting with me, and also operating the remote camera. I took a new bunch of setup shots this time which I'll post in an upcoming "remote camera setup part 2" article in the next few days. Lee got some cracking shots which you can see in the gallery including this real story teller of Cheshire head coach Paul Smith. Super composition, positioning, exposure and timing. I love it when you can understand the story of a game from just one shot. Here's the full gallery. Click the slideshow to go to the archive.
