British Superbikes
Julien Da Costa of the MSS Colchester Kawasaki team enjoyed a good season in British Superbikes in 2009.This shot was taken at the bottom of Surtees at Brands Hatch. Positioned very low down with a 300 2.8 lens, it was possible to shoot the riders looking straight at me as they sighted through the corner. The only problem is that the riders appear from behind a slight rise and as they are travelling at 100mph or more there is only a fraction of a second to frame them and fire the shutter. Pre-focusing just at the point where the riders appear helps significantly as, though the Canon 300 2.8 is a fantastically fast focusing lens, having an extra quarter of a second makes all the difference.
