England 16-9 Argentina

Johnny Wilkinson feeling a bit held backImage galleryWhen Joe Worsley says that the most exciting thing to happen in the first half was a paper plane thrown by the crowd flying through the goalposts you know that things are bad. A dire first half had the team boo'd off and Martin Johnson holding his head in his hands. Argentina were not much of a challenge but England's sensless and repeated kicking made for a spectacle better suited to Wimbledon than Twickenham. Monye really struggled at full-back, with an error-strewn performance that must make his position in doubt for next Saturday.Things improved slightly in the second half, with eventually man-mountain Matt Banahan bursting through the stubborn Argentine defence to score a try. How Martin Johnson needed that. The All Blacks promise a much tougher challenge. Lets hope Johnson can get his team firing on all cylinders by the 21st.Oh yes, and for all the photographers out there, here's something for you. The weather today was "massive". Riding up to Twickenham on my motorbike up the M3 was strangely eerie as there was a 60mph tailwind so the normal wind noise was absent. However, the driving rain was very much present. I abandoned most of my pre-game shots outside the ground due to the weather. I had prepared with Gore-Tex boots, trousers and jacket, with my special £0.00p plastic bag and elastic band to keep the camera and lens dry pitchside. As it turned out, the rain blew away in time for the game to start and it was dry but still blustery. As it darkened I upped the ISO from 640 to 1600, shooting manual as things were fairly consistent, and getting a minimum 1/640th shutter speed.Being a make-or-break day for Martin Johnson I'd positioned myself on the West side so I could alternate between the on-pitch action and Johnson sitting above the tunnel. The floodlights dont really reach into the stands so it was a matter of twiddling dials to adjust shutter & ISO when swivelling to see Johnson looking depressed, then back to the game again.Fun stuff - keeps you on your toes.
